Mar 31,  · I rather doubt that anything Mann does will surpass, in my mind, her brilliantly vibrant debut, ’s Whatever, but, at the other end of the 'mood scale’, Mental Illness reveals just what a superb, and here quietly passionate, songwriter she is, the acoustically-driven music being shot through with feelings of melancholic nostalgia and regret/5().

Aug 22,  · Charmer, by, again, a decent margin, is her worst. The first Aimee Mann album where it seems she's running out of gas. I count 2 good songs, maybe 3 on a generous day. The rest can move around depending on the day and my mood. I'm With Stupid is a good collection of songs done in by unsympathetic '90s alternative rock production.

Featured peformers: Aimee Mann (aka_text lyrics role_id aka_text, vocals, design), Michael Hausman (manager), Mark McKenna (engineer), Richard Benoit (engineer), Ray Blair (engineer), Mike Denneen (engineer), Ken Jordan (engineer), Steve Churchyard.
  8. Brabei says:
Whatever conjures up the best elements of surf-pop, new wave, and folk rock (Roger McGuinn has a benevolent eye cast over this recording). Out on her own with a truly great batch of confessional but self-assured songs, Aimee Mann crafted a classic right out the bag with her first solo record/5(38).
